Energoblock for the MultiPlus Victron Energy motorhome

Many motorhomes have a built-in battery charging system from the power grid pole along with an integrated 230V voltage converter. Unfortunately, frequently the energy block integrated with a motorhome is inefficient, power-hungry, and lacks any documentation. The Victron Energy company and its modern microprocessor controlled MultiPlus device is just the opposite.

Many functions in one device.

The Energoblok MultiPlus Victron Energy block voltage converter and a charger is available in many power versions. The choice depends on the user's needs. The basic purpose of the MultiPlus device is to charge the hotel battery with the power supply from the pole when the vehicle is not running and, when disconnected from the power grid, to generate 230V voltage directly from the battery. The Energoblok MultiPlus is characterized by very high efficiency--over 92%--so that it rarely heats up and turns on the fans, an uncomfortable situation created by cheaper voltage converters.


Possible configuration of the MultiPlus energy block

Basic configuration options, such as the operating mode or the selection of the battery type, can be selected using DIP switches on the device housing. However, if we want more detailed configuration and device behavior settings to suit our preferences it is possible to use the MK3 USB communication interface and the Victron Connect application or the Cerbo GX system with an external touchscreen display.

Thanks to this application, it is possible to set the battery or network voltages and the behavior of the system (e.g., when connected to the network, the device performs a bypass and charges the batteries or just charges the batteries). It is also possible to start the PowerAssist function to amplify the external power source with the use of battery energy or even to run an intelligent system for measuring the battery capacity expressed in a percentage. There are many more configuration options and you can find them in the device manual.

Voltage converter with transformer in the MultiPlus

Most manufacturers, due to the need to reduce costs, install a 230V alternating voltage generator in the form of electronic transistors. This solution is cheaper, but it comes with with higher energy losses, greater heat production, and an inaccurate sine wave, which may result in problems with some devices. The Multiplus device has a built-in transformer which eliminates all these problems and also ensures extremely high durability, which is why the Victron Energy company provides a 5-year warranty on the product around the world.

Cooperation with solar panels.

Each MultiPlus energy block can work with any charge regulator connected directly to the hotel battery or, in the case of Victron Energy MPPT regulators with VE Direct output, it can also be managed by the CerboGX central unit. After adding the GX Touch control panel, it is also possible to configure the charge regulator.

Energoblock for a motorhome: expandable.

The MultiPlus device enables a fairly wide expansion of the system, depending on the customer's preferences. The first basic expansion option is the Cerbo GX communication center, which enables the collection and sending of system data through the Internet. It is also possible to connect the GX Touch 50 LCD touch display to the Cerbo GX control panel and see the results directly at the device. The GX Touch display also allows you to configure all devices connected to it using the VE Direct interface and VE Bus or Can.

In addition, it is possible to use the GX Tank device for monitoring liquid levels of, e.g., drinking water, utility water, or gray water. The Cerbo GX device itself enables the monitoring of three such sensors. With the Cerbo GX control unit, it is also possible to attach a battery monitoring shunt SmartShunt, but the MultiPlus device itself measures the battery capacity in percentages.  Finally, it is worth mentioning that the MultiPlus works with all types of batteries and, therefore, also with GEL / AGM / and LiFePO4, as well as with classic liquid electrolyte batteries.
